I had the honor of capturing Kellie and Ryan's timeless summer wedding at Venue3Two in Grand Rapids. It was an unforgettable celebration of love, family, and friendship, and was a beautiful reflection of the couple's personalities and style. The day started with a traditional Catholic ceremony, followed by portraits, dinner, a private cake-cutting, and a dance party that lasted late into the night. From the stunning floral arrangements to the delicious food and drinks, every detail was thoughtfully planned and executed to perfection.
Kellie and Ryan first found me online and invited me to Chicago for their engagement shoot, where we spent the whole day getting to know each other and becoming instant friends. A few months after their engagement, they moved to Grand Rapids, which gave us the opportunity to go out for drinks and apps and chat all about their upcoming wedding. Through this process, I really got to know the two of them and couldn't wait to be a part of their journey to the altar.
Morning Details & Getting Ready
Classy is the first word that comes to mind when describing the couple's wedding day attire. Kellie's dress, featuring a stunning low-back detail and pearl accents, was the vision of beauty. Meanwhile, Ryan rocked red Christian Louboutin loafers that added a touch of refinement to his ensemble. And I have to give an honorable mention to the bride and bridesmaid's monogrammed slippers. Pajamas are always a go-to, but cozy slippers were such a fun, unique alternative.
Elegant Catholic Ceremony
The traditional Catholic wedding ceremony at The Cathedral of St. Andrew was absolutely gorgeous. They included classic rituals like lighting the Unity candle and sharing Communion, which added to the spiritual significance of the day. But what really stood out was the way these two looked at each other. You could feel the love and devotion between them. The ceremony truly reflected their strong faith and the joy in the room was contagious. It was one of those weddings that you'll never forget.
Wedding Day Portraits
After the ceremony, the guests headed to Venue3Two for cocktail hour while the bridal party, couple and I stayed behind for portraits. Despite it being a rainy, dreary day this bridal crew made the best of it. Everyone was happy to be there in support of Kellie and Ryan on their big day. The clear umbrellas on The Blue Bridge were such a vibe and will be a fun memory to look back on in the future.
Private Cake Cutting
One of my favorite parts of the entire day was Kellie and Ryan's private cake-cutting in the venue kitchen. Not only was their 3-tier white wedding cake an elegant show-stopper in and of itself, but featured a sentimental cake topper passed down from generations before. They also took this moment to change into their custom dancing shoes before heading back out to the reception. These little moments of intention sprinkled into the timeline really make a wedding day stand out and create memories that last a lifetime.
Classy Reception at Venue3Two
Venue3Two was the perfect space for Kellie and Ryan's elegant reception. Adorned in florals, greenery, and gold, it was truly something out of a fairytale. After a few heartfelt speeches and a delicious plated meal, the rest of the night was spent on the dance floor. You could feel the energy radiating through the room. The perfect end to a perfect day.
