From the gorgeous lakeside view to the perfect spring weather and carefully curated design, Kristi and Tom's Lake Walloon wedding was as dreamy as they come. They spared no expense in creating an unforgettable experience for their guests both near and far and could not have picked a better vendor team to make it happen. It was truly an event to remember!
For starters, Kristi and Tom generously rented the entire Hotel Walloon to host their guests for the weekend. Because Tom's family was flying in from overseas, it was super important to them to have a comfortable and welcoming place for them to stay. The accommodations and friendly staff at Hotel Walloon exceeded all expectations! Every guest, myself included, had a wonderful experience and couldn't have asked for a better weekend stay.
Getting Ready at Hotel Walloon
One of the best features of the quaint boutique hotel is the abundance of natural light. The getting-ready suite features large windows, modern furniture, and gold accents that give off a charming vintage feel. Kristi's getting-ready outfit matched the vibe to perfection with a luxurious white robe with sheer sleeves. She and her three bridesmaids indulged in champagne and a grazing station (a wedding day must-have!) as they got ready for the day.
On the other side of the hotel, the guys were intently watching Tom's favorite soccer (futbol) team play a heated game that had everyone on the edge of their seats. Unfortunately, Tom's team lost, and his family made sure to fly the opposing team's flag off of the hotel balcony (which he would later see when heading to the reception!) It made for a good laugh!
Once everyone was wedding day ready, the couple opened sweet gifts from each other which included jewelry and accessories to finalize their look.
First Look & Portraits
Kristi and Tom opted for a first look which allowed them to have a private vow reading and quiet moment together before the ceremony. They had a special box waiting for them that housed their vow books and a bottle of Old Fitzgerald they had been saving for the occasion. They celebrated with a drink and placed the bottle back in the box where it would be sealed for safekeeping during the ceremony. (Learn more about wine box unity ceremonies here!)
Outdoor Ceremony at Lake Walloon
The ceremony was set up overlooking Lake Walloon with layered floral bouquets framing the altar. The simple decor and lakefront view created such a beautiful spring backdrop. The weather was a perfect sunny and 75 which by Michigan standards was a true miracle... or maybe the universe's way of giving her blessing? Either way, it could not have been more ideal. The women in Tom's family really showed out with their beautiful and unique European fashion which added a fun twist to the day.
Portraits By The Lake
After the ceremony, we took family formals by the lake while guests enjoyed a social cocktail hour at the hotel. We also took advantage of the dock and beach area for bride and groom portraits. I am obsessed with how they turned out! Eventually, we all made our way across the street to the Talcott where they hosted their evening reception (the bridal party rode over in style courtesy of Hotel Walloon!)
Elegant Reception at The Talcott
The reception was beautifully designed with white linens and place settings, flowers, and romantic lighting throughout the spacious venue. Dinner was served family-style with servings at each table for guests to enjoy at their own pace. Kristi's dad kicked off the night with a hilarious speech and a ceremonial passing of Kristi's phone bill to Tom. That gesture had everyone laughing and really set the tone for the rest of the night.
After the speeches, the cutting of the cake, and the first dances, Kristi snuck away for a quick outfit change while everyone hit the dance floor and the party really began. They danced the night away! It was a perfect ending to a perfect day at Lake Walloon and I am so incredibly grateful to have been a part of it.
